Carrots are one of the seasonal vegetables in the month of March, loaded with beneficial properties, very versatile in the kitchen and, also, delicious. Surely this scenario is familiar to you: you are going to prepare a recipe or you are cleaning the refrigerator and you find some wilted, wrinkled and bad-looking carrots. If they are moldy or show signs of rot, you should throw them in the trash. But if the only drawback is that they have become soft and wrinkled, you can take advantage of them.

This is confirmed by a viral trick on TikTok to take advantage of carrots that have become soft, perfect for combating food waste. The procedure is very simple to carry out and will save you from throwing away some tasty carrots whose only problem is that they have lost texture, although their properties remain intact.

The person in charge of publicizing this practical trick has been TikTok user María La Cooquette, who has almost 100 thousand followers on this social network. Now, the publication in question, which compiles several cooking tricks, almost reached a million likes.

The reason why carrots become wrinkled and soft over time is that they progressively lose moisture when they are no longer as fresh. For this reason, “reliving” them is very easy.

You just have to put them in a container such as a glass or a lunch box, submerge them completely in water and cover the container with transparent paper. Then, place the container in the refrigerator and let the carrots refrigerate to soak for 24 hours. In one day they will have come back to life and will once again have the smoothness and hardness characteristic of this vegetable. You can now peel them and use them in any preparation you like.

Precisely, soaking in water also serves to restore other foods that have become stale over time, such as parsley or cilantro. Place the bouquet of condiments (separately) into a glass of water, as if it were a bouquet of flowers. Store them in the refrigerator for a day and they will regain their good appearance and freshness.

Something similar happens with avocado, a fruit that goes bad quickly. To extend its freshness and good condition, place it in a container with water that you can cover and then take it to the refrigerator. With this trick, María La Coquette promises that you can keep it up to a week longer than usual.
