For many, our dogs, cats and other pets are part of the family and as if they were just another human member of the home. It is not strange today to see their owners sharing all the spaces in the house with them, even sleeping with them because they feel more comfortable that way.

However, science has called this practice into question, as there are several reasons why it is harmful to sleep with your pet, mainly for medical reasons related to diseases that can be contracted in this way.

Specifically, about a hundred diseases can be easily passed from pets to humans if moments as intimate as sleeping are shared: ringworm, nematodes, staphylococcus infections and hookworm are some of the typical ones that arise when situations occur such as the animal licking to their owner or hug and stick together.

As if that were not enough, not only is there the danger of diseases, but the sudden movements of pets during the night affect the quality of sleep and wake up their owners, thus diminishing such an important phase of our lives as sleep. deeply.

Furthermore, we must take into account the danger that this practice poses for people with allergies or respiratory problems, who should not let their pets get into bed with them to sleep or spend a long time.

Despite these warnings, the data is conclusive: 14% of dogs and 33% of cats sleep at night in bed with their owners, according to the Sleep Institute of Spain.
