Although many people go to animal shelters with the intention of choosing an animal, they sometimes find that the choice is out of their hands. A clear example of this occurred recently, captured in a video that shows a cat affectionately hugging a child as soon as he opened his cage.

The encounter, apparently filmed by one of the shelter workers, shows the boy shyly approaching the cage and then being greeted by a hug from the cat, who clearly appears to choose him instead of being chosen.

Some social media users have been very excited about this brief moment. Some have claimed that this meeting “may be one of the best moments of his life” while others, jokingly, have theorized that the kitten chose the child because he was dressed in orange, the same color as the color of her fur.

The idea that animals choose their owners is based on how animals, such as dogs and cats, react to different people. Although animals do not choose their owners in the same way that humans make decisions, they do show preferences for some people over others.

This may be due to how a person approaches an animal or how they treat it, making the animal feel more comfortable or safe with that person. Additionally, each animal has its own personality and past experiences that affect how it gets along with humans.

So, although it is not as if animals think and decide consciously, they can be attracted to certain people, which can seem like they are choosing their owner.
