The BesArt, The River Museum is a far-reaching cultural project that was presented yesterday in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelonès Nord) that links to the transformation that the Besòs river is undergoing. The walls of the Parque Fluvial will supersede the future canvases of the world’s largest open-air urban art museum space.
The promoters propose that the artists create and exhibit their works permanently in a metropolitan space within the reach of all audiences. BesArt is the abbreviation of Besòs Arte, The River Museum, the great fluvial museum, without barriers.
This is an initiative promoted by three entities, which yesterday highlighted the transformative spirit of the project, the Santa Coloma de Gramenet City Council, the Mediterranean Street Art association and the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona.
“The river has been transformed” declared Núria Parlón, the mayor of Colomense “and the only thing missing was culture” to give continuity to the project to preserve one of the main environmental assets of the Barcelona metropolitan area.
In this first phase, the walls of the park, which have a surface area of ??more than five million square metres, will soon begin to receive visits from the first artists who will have an assigned space between the Santa Coloma bridge and the Can Peixauet bridge. . Initially, eight kilometers of river frontage will be occupied, four per band, although the promoters of the project, in later phases, hope to cover the entire length of the river with art, 18 kilometers of museum without barriers. The right margin will be reserved for local artists and the rest will be curated by Jordi Rubio, who will guarantee the quality of the work at BesArt.
“Giving visibility to artists is doing justice to urban art in a unique Mediterranean project” said David Hernández, founder of Mediterranean Street Art, “a unique, transversal museum that will establish bridges between Catalonia and the rest of the world”, aware, he asserted, “to be creating a great universal heritage.”
