The Minister of Culture, Natàlia Garriga, and the president of the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation (CCMA), Rosa Romà, have presented this week an agreement that will allow the inclusion of thousands of titles dubbed and subtitled in Catalan by TV3 on the audiovisual platforms.

The CCMA will make the thousands of dubbings and subtitles they have on file available to the Department of Culture and the Ministry will analyze the catalog of each platform and transfer the materials for publication. As a result of the agreement, HBO Max will incorporate more than a hundred films in Catalan in the coming months and Netflix, which already has 127 titles in Catalan, will incorporate thirty titles that coincide with its catalogue.

As he explained, until now HBO Max had a dozen productions in Catalan and, as a result of contacts with the Government, it has already incorporated 43 films. Thus, you can already see powerful films in Catalan such as The Great Gatsby, Gravity, Geotempesta, Sully, The Suicide Squad (2016), Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Godzilla, Hangover in Las Vegas, Hangover 2: Now in Thailand , Hangover 3, The Legend of Tarzan, V for Vendetta, Sex and the City: The Movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Gran Torino or Interstellar.

As regards Netflix, since the agreement in March 2022, it has already dubbed and subtitled 127 of its own titles into Catalan. With the agreement with the CCMA, they hope that in the coming weeks they will be able to offer around thirty more titles in this language.

Culture also works so that they can count on the work carried out by the CCMA on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Movistar Plus, Filmin and Disney. As indicated, Prime Video already dubs films and series in Catalan, such as Jack Ryan, The Boys or The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Movistar Plus subtitles a large part of its catalog and Filmin already dubs series in Catalan. It is expected that all platforms will include titles in Catalan “soon”.

The dubbing that will be incorporated into the platforms are those that TV3 has produced throughout its history and that have already been seen on the air. The Generalitat is also working so that the platforms translate the interfaces into Catalan and can provide them with data on the consumption of the Catalan language.
