Alison, an elderly pit bull who had had a difficult life, found a loving home in her final years of life thanks to Cole Reifsnider, who decided to adopt an older dog instead of a puppy. After being abandoned by her previous family and surviving being shot, as reported by The Dodo, Alison arrived at the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington D.C. looking for a second chance. Her story moved Reifsnider, who adopted her the same day she turned eleven, and they began a great relationship.
Alison, despite her age, enjoyed walks, which led Reifsnider to use the Rover app to find a dog walker for when she was not at home. That’s how she met Seth, a young man passionate about dogs whom she hired to give her short walks. Although that didn’t last long.
What no one expected is that this boy became so fond of Alison. They became so close to her that Seth would spend hours with her, taking her to sunbathe on a rooftop or giving her her own food. The young man just wanted Alison to be with her and receive affection.
Seth’s devotion to Alison became even more evident when it came time to say goodbye forever. Despite having an exam that same day, Seth went out of his way to be present in the dog’s last moments, showing his love and respect for the pit bull: “When I told Seth that we would have to put Alison down at 4:30 p.m. , told me he had an exam at 2:00 p.m., but he would be there, and he was. He finished his exam and ran to meet me outside the vet to say his final goodbye to Alison.”
After Alison’s passing, Seth expressed his love and gratitude for her in a final review in Rover, a tribute that perfectly summed up everything Alison had in his life. “With a heavy heart, but with great honor, I have the opportunity to write the last review for Alison. Knowing Al was a privilege. The happiest old lady who had reason to be unhappy… We formed a bond for which I will be grateful eternally grateful,” he wrote in the app.
Seth’s note not only served as a goodbye, but also as a tribute to Alison’s life, a life that, although marked by difficulty, was full of love and joy in her final years. “We formed a bond for which I will be forever grateful,” Seth continued in her touching farewell to him.
