The charismatic comedian and fervent animal rights defender, Ricky Gervais, has once again demonstrated his generosity by donating an impressive £1.9 million pounds (equivalent to 2.2 million euros) to 11 charities dedicated to animal protection around the world.
Gervais, known for his hit television series such as ‘After Life’ and ‘The Office’, as well as his vegan stance, channeled funds from ticket sales from his latest stand-up world tour, ‘Armageddon’.
Lucky beneficiary organizations include Dogs Matter, Animal SOS Sri Lanka, Catastrophes Cat Rescue, Chaldon Animal Sanctuary, Dogs On The Streets, Helping Rhinos, Millions of Friends, Mira Dogs, Paws2Rescue, PDSA and Wild Futures, which runs a cat sanctuary. primates in Cornwall, UK.
With his characteristic sense of humor, Gervais commented on the recipient of his generosity, saying: “I hope the dogs, cats, rhinos and monkeys invest this money wisely, because when my career goes down the tubes I will need it back.” The money comes from additional profits generated by the sale of platinum tickets for the ‘Armageddon’ tour, intended to prevent resale of these.
