Getting abandoned animals to feel calm after a rescue is not an easy task, especially if they are puppies. Before resorting to tranquilizers, employees at the Richmond Wildlife Center in Virginia, United States, have opted for a curious strategy to care for an orphaned fox cub.
The little baby was taken in when he barely weighed between 70 and 80 grams, had not yet opened his eyes and was not at all accustomed to contact with human beings. To solve this difficulty, the center’s caregivers decided to dress up as a fox, complete with mask included.
It is a surprising method, to say the least, but very effective as explained by the Richmond Wildlife Center. The story has gone viral thanks to a video shared on Facebook in which one of the workers is seen feeding the baby with a bottle.
“It is progressing well. It is important to ensure that captive-raised orphans do not become imprinted or habituated to humans. To prevent that, we minimize human sounds, create visual barriers, reduce handling, reduce multiple transfers between different facilities and use masks for the species,” the publication said.
