Unintentionally, a young man from Vigo has saved the life of Toco, a small Chihuahua dog that his owner threw into a garbage can after refusing to pay for a 700-euro operation. Some facts for which the Vigo Local Police have already opened an investigation for a crime of animal abuse.
The events occurred at the end of January, when 092 received a call from a young man who had found the animal in a container.
According to his story, he was on Avenida de A Florida in the city searching through the container because his fanny pack had been stolen and he wanted to check if the thief had gotten rid of it by throwing it away.
He didn’t find the fanny pack, but he did find a major surprise. When she opened the lid, she noticed that a bag inside was moving. He verified that inside it there was another bag that, when opened, revealed a small, badly injured dog. The animal had several injuries on its body and, given the urgency of its condition, the young man took it to a veterinary clinic.
The veterinarian recognized the dog, which he had treated a few hours before, as he stated in statements to the agents who came to the scene. According to his version, the owner knew that the furry animal was very serious and needed expensive surgery.
The man took him from the clinic claiming that a friend of his, also a veterinarian, would treat him. However, he abandoned it in a garbage container. After being identified by the agents, that the dog had been attacked by another dog he owned, an American Akita breed, and that he had thrown it away believing that he was dead.
The young man who found him in the container offered to take care of Toco and pay his healthcare costs. The 24-year-old boy has temporary custody of him while the judicial authority decides his fate.
In the absence of his future being resolved, the furry dog ??has gained a new home, where he is cared for even if he has health problems. The Local Police of Vigo also confirms that Toco “as of today is happily recovered from his injuries.”
