Santa Coloma de Gramenet has inaugurated last weekend the Air Raid Shelter located in the basement of the Torre Balldovina Museum. After 3 years of work, this new museum space in the city opens to the public.
The Balldovina Tower Air Raid Shelter is a project promoted by the Historical Memory Council of the Santa Coloma de Gramanet City Council, in which the Culture Area and the Presidency Area of ??the Barcelona Provincial Council, the General Directorate of Memory have participated Democrática and the Democratic Memorial of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
At the inauguration ceremony, the mayoress of Santa Coloma, Núria Parlon highlighted “the importance of this recovered Historical Memory space for the city and the need to make, from the institutions and in collaboration with the different social actors and citizen entities, a effort to recover and not forget our recent history.” The initiative to recover and open the air raid shelter and incorporate it into the visitable heritage of Santa Coloma must be understood as an essential piece to learn about the most recent history of the city.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Didpatri Research Group, from the University of Barcelona, ??author of the museography and exhibition design of the shelter; recreation groups, music from the war period and a tasting of food typical of the moment by Kuanum, Interesting and Fun Heritage.
The visit to the refuge, which due to its construction characteristics will be in small groups and always accompanied by a guide, allows you to relive some experiences using audiovisual elements, explanatory panels and props. The entrance to the refuge will be through the access of the Pau Casals square, where the space with a more powerful museography is located as it is the largest and most versatile space. From there, the gallery will be toured until the end, with access to the interior of the Museum.
