Sant Josep Vins promotes the vocation and tradition of the winegrowers of the Agrícola Sant Josep de Bot cooperative towards the wine market. They belong to the first generation of wineries that during the 90s began to work to give prestige to homegrown wine in Terra Alta.

All this tireless work is carried out from the town of Bot, the heart of a rugged and diverse landscape where the Terra Alta plain meets the Canaletes River Valley. And very close, majestic and decisive, the Els Ports massif, a mountain range that explains the calcareous nature of the land and a less dry local climate than in other areas of Mediterranean viticulture.

In this idyllic setting, the cooperative cultivates close to a thousand vineyard plots with twenty grape varieties, among which Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha Tinta stand out, the most sustainable vines we know of here.

Agricola Sant Josep: vine, olive and almond trees

As we have previously mentioned, Sant Josep Vins is part of Agrícola Sant Josep, a cooperative company founded in the town of Bot in 1962. It is an entity dedicated to transforming and marketing the fruits of the three most common woody crops traditions of Mediterranean agriculture: the vine, the olive tree and the almond tree.

All its production is from its own harvest and comes from the lands cultivated by its partners in the Terra Alta region, where they have some 500 hectares of crops.

Laquarta, high varietal expression

One of the most celebrated wines from Sant Josep Vins is its Laquarta 2019, the winery’s first wine made exclusively with the indigenous Garnacha from the Ebro River Valley grown in Bot. A hairy-textured Grenache exclusively from a selection of old vineyards.

A red wine with high varietal expression, aged and that invites us to discover the freshness of this rare variety.

It is ruby ??red in color. The aroma is delicate and fresh, fruity and balsamic. The palate is voluminous but lively and shows us the unmistakable freshness offered by the hairy Garnacha in Bot.

As it is a red wine with body but light in structure and fresh, it offers us wide gastronomic possibilities where red meat, tuna, and roasted vegetables stand out.

uncommon targets

Sant Josep Vins also has a family of wines that invites us to discover the less common strains in the region and the most international wine styles: Plana d’en Fonoll.

An example of this is its Plana d’en Fonoll Chardonnay, a dry, fruity and slightly complex white wine. The location of the only two Chardonnay vines in the winery, located in hollows, gives this white an extraordinary freshness.

Pale yellow in color, it has a very intense and fruity aroma, characteristic of a fresh expression of this variety. It also offers an aromatic background of a complex nature. On the palate its freshness and fluid touch surprises. Ideal with salads, fish cakes (especially salmon), with butter sauce and curry dishes. Meats, fish, cheeses.
