Queralt Lahoz ?????
Place and date: Parallel 62 (21/III/2024)
It was the pandemic year of 2020 when we heard about Queralt Lahoz, thanks to the appearance of the singer from Santa Coloma de Gramenet at a telematic Mercat de Música Viva in Vic. Our protagonist, who until that date had only released one EP, was fascinated by a proposal in the hip-hop/urban/flamenco territory and other herbs, confirming his talent with a first full-length album, Pureza, in 2021. The good news is that Lahoz is preparing a new album. This is how she announced it while passing through the Mil·lenni Festival, where he performed with Todo se gotten blue, an acoustic format combined with the company of guitarist Daniel Felices.
A great entry blessed this Thursday’s proposal, which takes its name from a verse from Tan Rico, a song from his 2023 EP Alto Cielo. This and the rest of the songs from the aforementioned work were part of the repertoire, along with the most recent single El alijo and previous material. Nice exercise in the short distance with wicks of things like song, flamenco, copla, some Antillean look and even a certain touch of tango, in which the artist –perhaps captured by the emotion of succeeding at home–, spoke a lot and a half, counting in any case on the complicity of the public. Tour culminated with a single encore, an emotional reading of Al alba by Luis Eduardo Aute, and in which he had previously paid tribute to another exquisite corpse, Carlos Cano, with a version of María la portuguesa in which he gave vocal prominence to the guitarist.
While waiting for more news, we will keep a beautiful memory of this recital that alludes to roots and heart. Bolo structured in four beats, ending the first with the claw of Your mouth, a song that perfectly exemplified the extraordinary vocal abilities that mark the work of Queralt Lahoz. The flavor of From the Cave to the Olive Trees or the rumbera drift of Vendavales are also among the highlights of the program, as well as the exquisite workmanship of With Fear of You or the party airs of In Another Place.
