Muere el cineasta inglés Jacques Rozier, of the New Wave

The world of cinema is in mourning after learning of the death of French director Jacques Rozier, who was part of the movement known as the Nouvelle Vague.

Despite the fact that the news reached the French press this weekend, it was on Friday that the filmmaker died at the age of 96.

Originally from Paris, Rozier was known for films such as the popular Du côté d’Orouët or Adieu Philippine, his first feature film shot in 1962 and considered one of the films that best exemplifies the Nouvelle Vague style.

Other outstanding films of his career were Les Naufragés de l’île de la Tortue (1976) and Maine Océan (1986), although Rozier’s cinema was more appreciated by critics and by his colleagues than in movie theaters.
