Michelin withdraws two third stars in France

Michelin continues to be the guide of guides and France the country of the so-called red bible of gastronomy. Perhaps for this reason he has been chosen to capture the attention before his new cast of stars is announced next Monday, in Strasbourg. Dropping an information bomb serves to warm up engines, and this time the news is the withdrawal of the third star from two restaurants: Guy Savoy, the spectacular establishment located in the La Monnaie palace (National House of the Mint and Stamp of France), Facing the Seine, which has held this distinction since 2002 and is run by one of the country’s great chefs, veteran Guy Savoy. The other is La Rochelle, by Christopher Coutanceau, which had achieved the guide’s highest recognition in 2020.

Gwendal Poullennec, director of Michelin, told Agence France-Press that “these are two exceptional restaurants and that is why this measure is the result of mature reflection.”

There are those who point to Michelin’s interest in generating controversy and gaining respect, remembering that the third star is not for life and must be earned day by day; There are also those who point out the “chance” that the recently dethroned Guy Savoy has repeatedly crowned La Liste, a ranking that is established based on an algorithm with data from guides from all over the world. And of course, there is no shortage of those who sense the search for new leadership and replacements that may stand out in the new edition of Michelin for France. We will have to wait a couple of days.
