The poem Coral romput “condenses all the themes that Vicent Andrés Estellés will deal with throughout his work, crossed by a very big wound, which is the death of his daughter”. This is how Marina Alegre explains the proposal she is premiering today at the Atrium hall in Barcelona, ??under the direction of Marc Chornet.

The director says: “A new, younger and theatrical version was needed, which would bring the young audience closer to this immense poem by Estellés”. The theatrical production of this work by the poet from Burjassot is born from the complicity of the actress and the director: “We are looking for projects to do together; the Marina pronounced Coral romput and it never left my head”, explains Chornet, who details that they finished adjusting the tempos so that the premiere coincided with the centenary of the poet’s birth.

“That it is a young voice like that of the Navy gives it a necessary fragility. And it was also necessary to update this look, so that it is a living and contemporary reference”, he points out.

With a metaphorical desk on stage, Alegre does not say the poem, but interprets it, thanks to the first person that the poet uses: “Everything revolves around the text: both me and the audience that comes to see it let’s travel with the words so well written by Estellés. His daughter dies after three months of being born and he writes the poem after a year. Sharing this intimate pain makes it collective”, he concludes.

Coral romput, the stage project by Marina Alegre Silva and Marc Chornet Artells, based on the poem by the Valencian Vicent Andrés Estellés, can be seen in the Atrium hall in Barcelona from April 2 to June 9.
