The Mexican justice system has convicted a man for the crime of animal abuse after pouring a dog into a pot of boiling oil in the municipality of Tecámac, State of Mexico, according to local media Milenio. The person responsible faces up to four years in prison.
The events occurred in May, when Scooby was attacked by Sergio, a former Mexico City police officer. As recorded on the video surveillance cameras, after an argument with the owner of the butcher shop, the man left the establishment, located in the community of San Pablo Tecalco, angry and violently grabbed the animal.
Although the owner of the butcher shop and neighbors tried to help the dog, in the end the severity of the burns meant that nothing could be done to save its life. His body was delivered to the Peludos Desamparados association, according to this media.
According to the testimonies of the residents of San Pablo Tecalco, Scooby was a noble dog that was cared for by the residents of that area.
“I would ask that they not kill the dogs because they take care of you and you have to take care of them,” explains Roberto, a minor who owns the dog in an interview with Milenio.
After finding Sergio guilty, the judge of the State of Mexico set a new hearing for October 9, where the amount and scope of the sanctions and reparation for the damage caused to the animal will be set.
