Is it cheaper to make butter at home or buy it at the supermarket? The experiment that answers the doubts

Butter is a food widely used in our daily lives and we take it for granted that it must be bought in the supermarket. But there is also the option of making it homemade, as is the case with mayonnaise and other ingredients that abound in Spanish cuisine.

On TikTok @sabinabanzo has proposed to check if it is cheaper to buy butter already made in the supermarket or make it yourself at home and starts with the first prices: a normal butter in the supermarket costs 3.5 euros and half a liter of cream 1 €.65.

“We are going to see how much butter comes out of half a liter of cream and we are going to see if we save money or not, but at least this way we learn how to make it,” the author of the video begins by proposing, who begins the recipe by putting the cream in a bowl and putting it to beat “at medium power”.

The first thing that comes out is the usual whipped cream, but if you continue whipping without stopping it ends up cutting and then the butter is extracted: “If the whipped cream ever cuts, keep whipping and don’t throw it away, that’s how you get butter ”explains the cook.

The next step is to drain all the whey well by squeezing the butter dough and put it in a bowl with cold water to finish removing the liquid. Finally, shape it into a square shape with spatulas and let it cool.

The result of the experiment when weighing the two products and checking the price is that supermarket butter costs 14.2 euros per kilo and homemade butter costs 8.1 euros per kilo plus whey to make other recipes.
