Good morning. Many times I run out of the house first thing in the morning and I don’t eat anything. Then the rest of the morning I forget and I already eat well at noon. In the end I never have breakfast, is something wrong? (Carolina Jiménez, reader)

Hello Caroline,

Unless you had a problem that you were perceiving from not eating breakfast, you would not have to worry about it. Delaying your breakfast by two or three hours to mid-morning does not have any important consideration and is perfectly feasible for the general population.

If, on the other hand, we were talking about people who have to carry out very strict glycemic control, for example due to having diabetes or another clinical condition, or who carry out very demanding activities that require a previous nutritional contribution, we would have to look at it more. If none of the above happens to you, there should be no problem.

I invite you to take advantage of this particularity and that you can start the day at mid-morning with healthy foods instead of the typical super flow breakfast that usually accompanies most people in the morning.

Once again, I remind you that breakfast is not essential, but it can be a very good opportunity to start the day in a healthy way.

I really like strawberries with wine, but is this combination healthy? Thank you so much. (Manolo Simón, reader)

Hi Manolo,

The combination of wine and fruit does not have any important particularity at the level of health compared to taking those foods separately.

So having strawberries with wine is exactly as healthy or harmful as having strawberries on the one hand, and that glass of wine on the other. The only difference is that instead of finding the wine in the glass, you find it macerating the strawberries.

Perhaps you ask because you have heard that other combinations can result in nutritional synergy or, conversely, in a negative interaction between foods.

For example, if we were talking about a lentil salad with strawberry, the vitamin C in the fruit would help to better absorb that iron. Or if, on the contrary, we take an iron supplement with a glass of milk, this calcium would be preventing proper iron absorption. It also happens a lot with drinks like coffee or tea, where phytates or tannins can reduce the absorption of minerals.

With the maceration of the fruit in alcohol, the only thing we must remember is that the less we consume the better the wine. But if you like that dessert a lot and surely you take it occasionally because it is also very seasonal, it is not essential that you give it up, much less.
