He kills his dog with a shot and leaves the body in an area that is difficult to access in the mountains.

An 80-year-old man has shot his own dog to death and abandoned the body in an area that is difficult to access on a mountain in the Alicante town of l’Orxa. The man is already being investigated by the Valencia Civil Guard as the author of a crime of animal abuse.

As reported this Friday by the armed institute, the events took place at the beginning of January, when a couple of amateur climbers were practicing that sport in what is known as Font dels Olbits (Alicante).

On their expedition, the couple found what appeared to be the corpse of a dog in a difficult to access place. And they notified the agents. When the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) patrol arrived, they verified that it was indeed the body of a dead dog with a gunshot wound to the head.

The agents verified that the dog belonged to an 80-year-old man who did not report the loss or theft of the animal. For all this and due to the impossibility of justifying the facts, he began to be investigated for a crime of animal abuse resulting in death.

The proceedings have been delivered to the Court of First Instance and Instruction Number 2 of Alcoy, as reported this Friday by the Civil Guard. According to the latest reform of the norm, in its basic type, this crime carries a prison sentence of 3 to 18 months or a fine of 6 to 12 months.
