The experience of shopping in a supermarket in Switzerland leaves few indifferent. Users are not only struck by the products, which are different and typical of the country’s gastronomy, but also by the high prices, much higher than those found in other countries such as Spain.
According to tiktoker Juan Pérez, white label bagged potato chips cost 4.20 francs, about 5 euros in exchange. He is also struck by the cost of Magnum brand ice cream. “At Mercadona, a box of almonds costs you about 5 euros. Here, 10.40 francs,” he explains. And he assures: “I don’t pass through here.”
This user’s purchase is becoming more and more complicated. “What in Spanish supermarkets costs a little more than 1 euro, like ready-to-go coffees, here cost 4.95, about 5 euros in our country,” Pérez continues.
The young man wonders how the country’s citizens do their weekly shopping: “Here everything costs like double.” And he ends up simulating pain, “the one that prices give him.”
TikTok users remember that the high prices in supermarkets in Switzerland are explained because salaries are also much higher than in Spain. “The minimum wage is about 3,000 euros,” says one. “It’s a good thing you haven’t gone to Canada,” adds another. And others will wonder how much olive oil is worth there.
