Three days following the incident where a Florida deputy was hit by a suspect’s vehicle, the sheriff has announced that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his outrage during a press conference, stating his disbelief that someone would commit such a violent act in the Tampa Bay community. Deputy Kalin Hall, who was hit by the suspect’s vehicle while on duty, had been working to ensure road safety on the night of Independence Day.
The incident occurred when Hall attempted to make a traffic stop on a black BMW, and the suspect fled at a high speed, ultimately hitting Hall and fleeing the scene. The suspect’s vehicle was found abandoned shortly after, and William Todd Lewis Jr. was identified as the driver. Additionally, Zachary Carnegie was arrested for driving a rental car that the suspects used to escape arrest. Carnegie was found in possession of a bag of Xanax that did not belong to him. Lewis’ girlfriend was also arrested for her involvement in the incident, including tampering with physical evidence.
William Todd Lewis Jr. is facing multiple charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of cannabis, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, reckless driving, and fleeing to elude a police officer. Sheriff Chronister indicated that Lewis’ charges may be upgraded to attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, and there may be additional arrests in connection with the case.
Deputy Kalin Hall, who was injured in the incident, expressed his gratitude for the support he received while recovering in the hospital. Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Hall remains optimistic about his recovery and looks forward to returning to duty.
