Family of Missing Marine Spots Son on Base but Still No Contact – Updates

SAN DIEGO — The family of Lance Corporal Bailey Cameron, a Camp Pendleton Marine reported missing a week ago, is pleading for answers. They are hoping someone in the community who may have seen their son will come forward.

Since Cameron’s disappearance, there have been unconfirmed sightings of him around the base, the most recent over the weekend. His family, who traveled from Washington to North County, is struggling to comprehend the situation, believing their son to be in distress.

“There’s a black void right now, it’s just missing,” Cameron’s mother Juliana England said. The family has been running on little to no sleep and desperation as they search for answers.

Cameron, 23, an active-duty Marine, is scheduled to exit the Corps on Sept. 9. He has been missing since Sunday, Aug. 25, a day after being spotted at Coyote Bar and Grill in Carlsbad. Video obtained by FOX 5 & KUSI shows him leaving the bar Saturday night without his backpack, sunglasses, and phone.

“He had returned from a night out and was coming back to the barracks. He was in a class getting ready to exit the Marines on September 9th,” said Sharie Finn, who runs a nonprofit called the RAD Movement to help families like Cameron’s.

Through Finn’s assistance, the family learned Cameron had been spotted on base since going missing, but he lost contact with his command post and friends and hasn’t returned to his barracks.

“The behavior is so foreign. It’s foreign to how we knew him before he was a Marine, and it’s foreign to all the Marines here. It’s not Bailey,” Cameron’s father Kevin said.

Officials at Camp Pendleton have not confirmed any speculative sightings of Cameron on the installation, but local commands remain dedicated to finding him.

“We just want to get him across the finish line,” his family said. The family claims a Marine spotted Cameron on Saturday the 31st around 11:30 p.m. and reported active signs of distress before running away toward the ocean.

“The gentleman we talked to said Bailey looked so afraid, so distressed. I just need to know that he’s okay,” said Juliette England, his mother. Surveillance video and photos also show Cameron on base at an ATM earlier in the week on Wednesday the 28th.

Carlsbad PD, the Marine Corps, and NCIS are all working on the case, but Bailey’s family says they have received little to no information about their son or seen much effort in the search.

“My ask is that we all communicate as a team and find this man who served our country,” his mother said. Now, Bailey’s mom, dad, and grandfather cling to the lines of a lullaby in hopes of bringing their lost son home.

“On land or sea or foam, you can always hear me singing this song: ‘Show me the way to go home,’ and I just belted it out throughout the barracks, calling to him, ‘Baby, if you can hear me, your mom loves you,’” England said. City of Carlsbad Spokesperson Denise Ramirez told FOX 5/KUSI in a statement on Friday that the local investigator with Carlsbad Police Department’s Crimes of Violence Unit, who handles all adult missing persons, is in communication with the U.S. Marine Corps and family.

The department also asks for the public’s assistance on this case. If you have seen Bailey Cameron or know his whereabouts, please contact the Carlsbad Police Department at 442-339-2197, 24 hours a day.

The family urges the public to share this post from RAD Movement and to contact the organization if you or someone you know has a lead.
