This November Som Cultura kicks off, a different festival that brings together different cultural experiences on the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona and seeks to bring us closer to the cultural treasures of this area.

This fifth edition is, inevitably, marked by the health crisis and the measures to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the organization wanted it to remain a special event and that is why the festival is launching in a new digital format with a wide range of online activities.

Organized by the Culture and Identity Club of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, in Som Cultura the cultural and tourism agents of the region come together to present their cultural and leisure offer, with activities that present new formulas and languages ??to shape most innovative proposals.

All of this, with the aim of reclaiming the monumental, artistic and traditional heritage of the regions of Girona and stimulating the interest of local inhabitants and visitors in an area that has much to offer.

Som Cultura 2020 launches with an online program made up of forty actions for all audiences. With this program the festival wants to show its commitment to culture and, above all, remind the public that despite the circumstances, it does not stop. The message is clear: you can safely enjoy the best of the Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees.

This is the first time that Som Cultura offers virtual programming, and beyond adapting to the circumstances, the change represents an opportunity to explore new digital formulas.

As we say, the options are endless, but the visit organized by the Territorial Network of Museums of the Regions of Girona is one of those that you cannot miss. A total of 17 museums in Girona will open to the general public virtually throughout the month of December. They will also offer video capsules with children’s workshops that will be disseminated through various digital platforms and the festival website.

“Museums from home” replaces the now traditional event “Museums take to the streets”, which this year cannot be carried out in person. Still, fun is guaranteed.

Without leaving home, children and their families will be able to make a camera obscura (Cinema Museum), create a Roman mosaic (MAC Girona), learn to tie sailor knots (Palamós Fishing Museum), build a replica of the castle of the Montgrí (Museum of the Mediterranean) or the Tarlà of Girona (Girona History Museum) and develop a remedy for the blows (Sant Feliu de Guíxols History Museum). There will also be workshops on engravings (Girona Art Museum), stained glass (Girona Cathedral Museum) or basket weaving (MAC Ullastret), among others.

Another of the interesting online proposals to experience from our living room are the live broadcasts of guided tours of various cultural facilities and exhibitions in the territory and thus discover Girona’s heritage in depth.

The Som Cultura remote programming is completed with online games (Quiz, Kaho or Memory) and a video format with legends from various towns in the Girona regions. Also formulas designed to learn from the natural treasures of the territory to discovering the mystery of the nailed heads of Ullastret, without forgetting the multitude of workshops to learn how to make baskets, sailor knots or mosaics…

In short, if you want to find the ideal plan for you and yours, we are sure that you will find it in the Som Cultura program that you can consult at https://somcultura.com/.
