Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has called for a press conference to be held on Thursday afternoon to reveal whether his office will suggest that Erik and Lyle Menendez should be resentenced due to new details that have emerged in their murder case. The Menendez brothers are currently serving life sentences for the murder of their parents in Beverly Hills over thirty years ago. Recent TV shows and documentaries have shed light on the possibility that the boys’ father was sexually abusive, a factor that was not considered during the trial.
Family members of the Menendez brothers have come forward, requesting their release from prison. Gascón had previously mentioned that there might be evidence, as claimed by the brothers’ lawyers, which could have altered the trial’s outcome had it been presented to the jury. One piece of new evidence is a letter supposedly written by Erik Menendez, expressing his fears about the abuse he faced from his father.
Furthermore, allegations against José Menendez have surfaced from Roy Roselló, a former member of the band Menudo, who claimed that he was sexually assaulted by Menendez while he served as a record executive. These accusations were highlighted in the documentary series “Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed.” The Menendez brothers were also featured in a Netflix series titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” which renewed public interest in the case.
Gascón is currently in a challenging reelection campaign against Nathan Hochman, who is significantly ahead in the polls. According to Mark DiCamillo, the director of the poll, Hochman has a considerable lead in the race. It seems that the momentum is in Hochman’s favor, making him the frontrunner in the election.
