The Mexican city of Mérida hosted the celebration of The Best Chefs Awards for three days, where yesterday the list of winners was announced, headed once again by Madrid-born Dabiz Muñoz, chef at Diverxo, and who is followed in the ranking by chef of the Barcelona-based Enigma, Albert Adrià, who also won a special award for his brilliant appearance on the list. Third place on the podium is occupied by Slovenian chef Ana Rose from Hisa Franko (Kobarid).

At the gala, attended by more than 200 chefs from Japan, China, Korea, the United States and numerous Latin American countries, Muñoz obtained for the third consecutive time the recognition that Joan Roca achieved before he took first place. , (2017 and 2018), Björn Frentzen (2019) and René Redzepi (2020).
Among the top ten positions of the new edition of The Best Chefs Awards are also Andoni Luis Aduriz, chef of Mugaritz (Errenteria), behind the Danish René Redzepi, the three chefs of Barcelona’s Diseño, Eduard Xatruch, Oriol Castro and Mateu Casañas , who occupy seventh position, and Joan Roca, in eighth.
In addition to the special award for Albert Adrià, Jordi Roca received The Best Chef Pastry Award for the second year and one of the emotional moments of the night involved the recognition of Ferran Adrià, “for revolutionizing world gastronomy with his work at El Bulli” .
The list of the 100 best chefs has 31 nationalities and Europe is the continent with the greatest representation, with 54 chefs, 14 of them from Spain, while there are 24 from America and 17 from Asia.
Muñoz, who received the award from traditional Mayan cooks and the creative director of the contest, Cristian Gadau, praised Mexican cuisine and confessed that he was happy because “without a doubt I grew up in one of the most incredible countries in world gastronomy.
