The Ministry of Culture has purchased the painting ‘La Font del Gat. Montjuïc, suburb of Barcelona’, a work in which Santiago Rusiñol represents that area of ??the city, and ‘Window II’ by María Moreno. The cost of these two paintings was 72,000 euros, which will go to the Reina Sofía Museum.
In addition to these two works, Culture has also acquired ‘Portrait of a Gentleman’ and ‘Portrait of a Lady’, two canvases by Antonio Carnicero, for 20,000 euros. In this case, they will go to the Prado Museum.
Also going to the Reina Sofía will be the canvas ‘The scene of Tórtola Valencia, Barcelona’ by Ricard Urgell Carreras, dated 1914 and purchased for 650 euros.
The purchases, according to the BOE this Tuesday, have been obtained thanks to the right of first refusal, a preferential acquisition formula that allows the State to buy protected pieces and that has been exercised in a sale between individuals mediated by the Ansorena auction house.
Finally, it has been invested in a bronze sculpture made by Venanci Vallmitjana Abarca, in which he represents Alfonso XIII as a child. The price was 1,400 euros and Cultura bought it, this time, in the Catalan hall Balclis.
