There are barely six weeks left before the Cruïlla festival begins with one of the most powerful line-ups in memory with Placebo, Franz Ferdinand, Offspring or Rubén Blades. A posh proposal with space for all sounds in an event that includes humor and art while increasing its commitment to sustainability, with the intention of becoming the first festival that works 100% with energy over time green. La Vanguardia subscribers have a 20% discount on the price of tickets, provided they are purchased at Entradas de Vanguardia.
This was made clear in the presentation of the festival held this Wednesday at the Estrella Damm Factory and commanded by the director of the event, Jordi Herreruela, who wanted to highlight the activities that, around music, will take place within the Cruïlla to promoting other genres and “projecting the image of Barcelonaâ€, an objective that they set themselves despite the fact that 95% of the public that attends the festival is local. And it is that Herreruela sees the polychromatic musical proposal that characterizes the event since its first edition as a reflection of Barcelona as a “plural and diverse” city.
This variety is what they have wanted to value, highlighting proposals such as the humorous, encompassed within Cruïlla Comèdia, a new name for an offer that this year will bring together a cast that takes advantage of the emergence of a new batch of Catalan comedians. A program that they intend to extend beyond the festival with a stable circuit of rooms and the broadcast of the performances through TV3.
Another branch that Cruïlla will develop is the artistic one with the creation during the festival of five large murals, the background of a proposal that includes fights between illustrators, Street Art portraits of the musicians who will perform in this edition, as well as two installations designed to attract the eyes of the audience: Llum de saló, with its representation of a huge LED chandelier eight meters high by eight meters in diameter, and the Great Gorilla, the giant puppet over six meters high and weighing almost 1,000 kg. weight piloted by the theater company Antigua i Barbuda.
Beyond the purely artistic proposals, Cruïlla continues to evolve through sections such as technology, collaborating with the Mobile World Congress to develop projects such as the humanoid robot Ari (a “pythoness robot†as Jordi has laughingly defined it Herreruela) who will interact with those attending Cruïlla.
This collaboration with MWCapital will also allow you to enjoy immersive experiences such as a virtual smell tasting in collaboration with Celler de Can Roca, or attendance at an immersive concert by Izal, where attendees will take the place of the artist on stage through reality virtual. These are two proposals presented at the last MWCapital and that will be complemented by the study carried out by a group of volunteers, whose physiological responses will be measured to prepare the “emotional map” of the festival attendee through a neuroscientific evaluation.
It is precisely technology that will allow festivals to be held, reducing the ecological footprint. Cruïlla has set itself the objective of exceeding the “zero plastics†objective in order to achieve “zero wasteâ€, preparing a study to this end to detect the steps to be taken. A path along which the desire to eliminate CO2 emissions travels, for which they have proposed to stop using generator sets as an energy source, feeding from the electricity grid with renewable energy whenever possible.
In the same direction, work is being done to reduce emissions from transport, both the one used by the organization and the one that will take the public to the festival. To this end, electric vehicles and public transport will be promoted, reinforcing the bus service during the four days of the Cruïlla.
Of course, there was also talk about music, the heart of the festival, a section presented by Judit Neddermann -also a participant in this edition- to highlight the plurality of styles that the line-up encompasses, from Offspring’s punk to Rubén Blades’ salsa, passing for Indie, urban or pop without forgetting unclassifiable proposals such as the Icelanders Sigur Ros or the humorous Ladilla Rusa.
Along with these artists there will be consolidated names such as Omara Portuondo, Los Van Van, Sigur Ros, Sidonie, Leiva, Amaia, Antònia Font or Placebo. In addition, a representation of urban music will perform with elements such as Nicki Nicole, Delaossa, Wos, Santa Salut, Lia Kali, Triquell, Nanpa Básico, Lal’ba or Suu. In total fifty artists where we must not forget Leiva, solo and with the Mexicans The Guapos, Stay Homas, Carolina Durante, Cala Vento, Renaldo
