Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, recently announced their 2024 Most Haunted Hotels of America list, and a San Diego-area hotel made the cut. The hotels included in the list are known not only for their historic architecture but also for the ghostly spirits that are said to haunt them, according to a program spokesperson.

Among the most haunted hotels in the country is Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. Medium James Van Praagh has described the hotel as not only beautiful and unique but also extremely haunted. In 2018, Van Praagh conducted a séance at Hotel del Coronado and reported experiencing paranormal activity, particularly in the lobby of the hotel.

Historic Hotels of America highlighted Hotel del Coronado’s century-old history of unexplained phenomena, including sightings of a Victorian-era girl, a man in period clothing, and a woman in white. The hotel has also reported strange occurrences such as rattling pots and pans in the kitchen and moving objects in the gift shop.

One of the most famous ghosts at Hotel del Coronado is Kate Morgan, who is said to have died at the hotel in 1892 and never left. Her room, Room 3327, is reportedly the most requested room at the resort. Another allegedly haunted room, Room 3519, was investigated by parapsychologist Christopher Chacon in 1992, who documented numerous instances of anomalous phenomena over the course of a year.

In addition to Hotel del Coronado, two other California hotels were named on the list of most haunted hotels: Claremont Club & Spa in Berkeley and Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa in Sonoma. These hotels are said to have their own share of ghostly legends, with guests and staff reporting unexplained experiences.

Whether you’re a believer in the supernatural or a skeptic, these haunted hotels offer a glimpse into a world where guests linger long after their departure and staff continue to provide service from beyond the grave, as noted by the Historic Hotels of America spokesperson. If you’re looking for a spooky stay, these haunted hotels might just be the perfect destination for a ghostly encounter.
