Obtaining optimal working conditions in the world of hospitality and catering has become quite a challenge, and it is no coincidence that there is a lack of waiters: low salaries, few days of rest and intense working hours proliferate in our country, making Waiters increasingly report these situations.

In addition to terrible working conditions, many waiters also face unwanted treatment from customers who do not respect closing hours. This has been demonstrated once again by the X account @soycamarero, sharing the experience of a worker.

The message. “Empathy and respect, you don’t ask for much,” says the Soycamarero account in a tweet alongside the video of the waitress. “All of you who fill your mouths talking about mental health, I also hope that you talk about respect and empathy and have it with others,” says the waitress.

The worker explains her situation: “I work in a cafeteria that closes at midnight, they don’t pay me an extra minute of the time I work and I have a canteen two minutes away that closes at 4:00am.” She continues revealing: “Today at 11:50 p.m. 60 people entered this canteen, not giving a shit that I have a personal life and my own problems.”

The waitress, who could not hold back her tears, expresses her frustration, pointing out: “Those 60 people don’t give a shit that I am a person, that I have my own life and that they don’t pay me for overtime (…) what behind the bar it’s not a machine, it’s a person.”

Final answer. The hotelier concludes by stating: “I don’t want a hundred messages telling me that you are sorry, I want you to share this and for it to reach those people who have neither shame, respect nor empathy.”

Top comments. In a matter of days the tweet has gone viral with all kinds of comments about it: “I understand it perfectly, but a good inspection wouldn’t hurt. What is this about not being paid for the hours?” or “What a shame that people believe that for the price of a coffee they can have any worker as if they were medieval serfs” are several of the user responses.
