A common situation in hospitality is when an after-dinner meal lasts longer and customers order more drinks after having paid the bill. Generally, they are herbal shots, although it is also common for this to occur with coffees or infusions. And what is also recurring is that the client expects the house to invite those shots.

But this is not always the case. In this context, Abraham Galera Cano, a well-known waiter on Instagram after the user @abrigaca (267 thousand followers) shared a video on his profile where he teaches his trick so that the house does not have to invite shots. Of course, although some users have received his advice well, it has also opened debate.

This waiter begins his video bringing the orders to the table after the fictitious customers have paid the bill. That’s when they ask for some shots. “This is the reliable myth, the client asks me for the shots of weed once he has already paid and I have already given him the change, because he knows that yes or yes I am obliged to invite them,” says Abraham.

In order not to be forced to invite the house to said consumption, he exemplifies his response: “Oh sure, some shots of weed, right now. Should I also bring you the bill for the three shot glasses or leave it for later in case you want to drink more liquor?” With this modus operandi the waiter makes it clear that the shots will not be on the house.

In the comments section of the video, a debate has been opened about whether or not establishments should invite customers to shots. “If they spend a good amount on your business, it is obvious that they deserve to be invited, don’t forget that their salaries come from our clients,” remarks one user. “It doesn’t cost anything to put a few shots on the house as a courtesy,” says another person.

“I charge everyone who asks me, I invite when I want,” underlines another. To which another person makes an alternative suggestion: “Why don’t you ask them if they want to have some shots when they ask you for the bill?”

“Of course, since they give the bar owner the bottle of herbs, just as the clients have no obligation to leave a bottle, the bar owner is not obliged to invite him either, the invitations do not pay the bills,” says another person.

While others insist that the business must have the detail of inviting the customer to that drink. “Then don’t ask for a tip,” says one user.
