Bernardo López Mínguez, a TVE viewer, went to public television via burofax on October 16 to transmit an interesting discovery: thanks to information about an exhibition of Miguel Hernández in the National Library, he discovered the poet from Alicante in the brief filming exposed on the second edition of the Congress of Antifascist Writers that was held in Valencia in 1937.

The keen observer pointed out that these would be the first moving images of the poet, since until now numerous images were known and there were sound recordings where the author himself recited some of his poems, but no filming.

A TVE team began to review the images and compare them with the photos of the poet at that congress. Most of them, by German photographer Walter Reuter, who covered the event, had remained unpublished until recently. Clearly identified, Miguel Hernández appears there with a light shirt with rolled up sleeves and dark pants, just like the spectator that López Mínguez pointed out in his hypothesis.

The photographs identify the people with whom the poet was and even his position, sitting humbly on one of the stairs of the auditorium where the congress was held, attending the explanations with his hand resting on his chin, exactly as seen in the photographs. moving images.

“This discovery does not change anything, but it is exciting. And a lot,” concludes the information in which TVE reported this Monday on the discovery of a clever viewer.
