With the school year about to end, surely both you and your children are looking forward to a well-deserved vacation. Compensating a long year of study with a trip is a golden opportunity to create fun memories and discover amazing places similar to those that populate the imagination of children. In Spain there are fantastic cultural and leisure destinations, cheap and with activities for the whole family. Whether by car, train or plane, here are some ideas for your next getaway.
The mine of sun and beach tourism par excellence also awaits some of the most popular amusement parks on the peninsula. Aqualandia has the most refreshing and exciting water slides for children, as well as rest and relaxation areas ideal for parents. On the other hand, in the Terra Mítica theme park, you will be able to discover the ins and outs of the Egyptian, Roman and Iberian civilizations surrounded by roller coasters and carousels.
If you imagine a place in the north, dotted with the imposing green of meadows and robust cliffs, you probably think of La Mariña. This coastal region to the north of Lugo hides numerous charms, such as Playa de las Catedrales, with its incredible arches that the erosion of water and wind have deformed in its rocks. In its surroundings, you can also visit the recreation of Tolkien’s Hobbits village in the town of Viveiro or let yourself be impressed by the colonial houses of Ribadeo.
On the shores of the Atlantic is the fishing village of Punta Umbría (Huelva), an authentic reserve of endless, almost virgin beaches that stretch along the entire coast, such as La Bota or Los Enebrales. It is a haven of tranquility that you can only break, if you want, with a visit to the Torre Almenara, an excursion through the Doñana National Park and the biodiversity of the Guadalquivir marshes, or a getaway to Palos de la Frontera, the port from which the caravels of Christopher Columbus departed.
Asturias needs no introduction, but do you know one of its holy places? In the interior of the principality is the Basilica of Santa María de Covadonga, an impressive neo-Romanesque construction surrounded by mountains. This place of pilgrimage and spirituality houses the sanctuary nestled in the rock dedicated to the patron saint of the region (la santina), the Museum of the Royal Site of Covadonga and a monument in honor of King Pelayo that commemorates the first of the battles of the Reconquest Spanish in 722. Barely 15 kilometers away and without leaving the municipality of Cangas de Onís, are the Lakes of Covadonga, an accessible natural space, where you can take several low-difficulty hiking trails and observe the movement of the occasional wild Horse.
