One of the most popular summer foods is undoubtedly ice cream. Humans like it as a snack or as a dessert to cool off from the heat, but what about dogs? For obvious reasons, ice cream marketed for humans is not suitable for our four-legged best friends. They are ultra-processed and contain very harmful and toxic ingredients for dogs, such as chocolate and sugar.

But dogs also like to taste a tasty and refreshing ice cream, with which to cool off on days of high temperatures. In addition, it is an excellent method to keep them hydrated. Therefore, it is best to make homemade ice cream for dogs at home using ingredients that are good for them, such as fruit or their own snacks.

To make them you will need ice cream molds, but avoid using the sticks that they usually bring and replace them with a bar suitable for dogs, like the ones you usually give them to clean their teeth. Of course, keep in mind that it is a food that will add calories to their diet, so you should only offer it occasionally as a treat.

To make an ice cream for dogs with fruits, you must have some fruit that dogs can eat, such as bananas, apples, melons, watermelons or strawberries, for example. Wash the fruits well, peel them and remove their hearts or seeds in case they have them. The easiest option is to introduce the fruits in pieces with water in the mold and freeze it like this.

Another possibility is to mix the fruit with a natural yogurt – which does not have flavors, sugar or other sweeteners – with a smoothie and freeze the resulting mixture.

In this case, mix biscuits or sweets that you usually give your dog with water and introduce the mixture into the mold. Although these snacks will get soggy, you’ll still love the texture and flavor as lick after lick melts away.

This ice cream recipe for dogs is the most laborious, but your furry will love it. Prepare a broth by cooking chicken with some vegetable suitable for dogs such as pumpkin, carrot or zucchini. Do not add salt or spices, nor onion, because it is bad for them.

Once everything is cooked, shred the chicken well, making sure there are no bones left for the animal to choke on. Then, put some pieces of chicken and the chosen vegetables into the ice cream mold, along with the broth. When it is completely frozen, it is ready to offer it to your dog.
