According to a study by Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, these problems include stroke, heart attack and myocarditis, as well irregular heart rhythms. According to the study authors, COVID infections are responsible for 3 million cases of cardiovascular disease in the U.S.
According to the study, even younger and healthier individuals were at higher risk than those who had not been hospitalized for COVID.
Dr. Evelina Grayver was diagnosed with COVID last year and became a Northwell Health patient. Grayver, who is a marathon runner couldn’t even climb a flight of stairs.
She told CBS News that she felt like she had run a marathon and that her heart was racing. “I made the decision to stop being my own doctor and seek medical assistance.”
Grayver was suffering from long-term COVID. She was later diagnosed with myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle). Grayver’s heart was not pumping normally.
She said, “It was very frightening.” We know about the danger of myocarditis, sudden cardiac death. It was terrifying my first night. “Please, please, let me wake up in the morning,” I thought to myself.
Patients who have been infected by COVID may experience more cardiac problems.
She said, “We are literally just starting to scratch the surface”
