California’s COVID mandate rules are bent by those with money and influence, while school children remain hidden indoors.
Governor. Gavin Newsom claims that California is in a state emergency because of COVID for 22 months. An emergency, according to applicable law, is the “existence of conditions that are dangerous or pose a great danger to the safety of people and property in the state due to conditions like air pollution, fire flood, storm, epidemic, etc.” . . causing a “state of war emergency”, which is due to their magnitude are or are likely be out of the control of the services and equipment of any single city, county, and county .
Anyone who watched the Super Bowl this month couldn’t logically conclude that California is still in a state emergency. Many people were skeptical that the legal definition of “emergency,” ever existed. Nearly as much attention was paid to the absence of masks during the game than the final result.
However, no one should be surprised by the absence of masks and the failure to enforce the mask mandate, even though Newsom retains his “emergency power” and has “mandated” the use of masks in accordance with that power.
So why was that not enforced for Super Bowl? It’s simple. Money.
The Super Bowl is an important event. The Super Bowl was expected to bring $500,000,000 to the Los Angeles area. It was not a good idea to call it a “super spreader” event, or require masks for the more than 62,000 attendees. Money was talked about and mandates were walked.
Who else has money? California Prison Guards Union. They are major political donors to California Democrats. What was the right thing for a union-friendly governor to do?
Newsom exempted California prison officials from his vaccine mandate. This headline appeared in the Mercury News, October 2021: Newsom bows to prison guards union – Again. So much for Governor Newsom’s insistence that California follow science when it comes down to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Again, money spoke and mandates were followed.
Last, but not least, the mask mandates for schools are perhaps the most obvious example of power/money politics. It is, to put it mildly, a very unpopular mandate in many parts the state.
This headline, and many others, is supported by science and literature. Children are not super spreaders of COVID-19. This headline was published in American Academy of Pediatrics Volume 146 in August 2020.
The California Teachers Association is a formidable opponent for parents and children in California. The most powerful union in California is the public employee union. It receives its income from taxpayer dollars.
They maintained their lead during the pandemic and, according the Mercury News, spent more on lobbying Sacramento legislators than “Big Oil”. This is not a new phenomenon. This is the story of political spending between 2000-2010:
The California Fair Political Practices Commission published a report entitled “Big Money Talks”, which revealed that the California Teachers Association was the biggest political spender in California over the past decade. It spent more than $200 million on candidates for state office and ballot initiatives. The CTA spent $211.9 million, nearly twice the amount of the $107.5 million of the California State Council of Service Employees.
California’s parents and children are not able to compete with that amount of power and money. California’s public schools were the last to see their children go back to school in person. The school mask mandate in California is still in effect despite Newsom’s lifting of the mandate effective February 16th for most Californians – with notable exceptions for the unvaccinated or those on public transport.
No one should be surprised by California’s unions and lobbying. ” The 2022-22-23 Governor’s budget proposes spending $286.4 billion in total state funding” — the biggest government budget in the country. The growth of budgets has been accompanied by increased lobbying to protect government spoils.
California’s state spending will be the Super Bowl for big government spending in 2022. They cannot hide the fact that they are struggling with rampant crime, poverty and job flight, as well as the 49th-ranked state in national education results.
California’s large government approach has led to the death of its citizens.
There may be some light at the end. Three members of the San Francisco School Board, a highly-woke organization, were recently recalled. This shows that even California has a limit on what people can withstand.
