As “Grimm” heads into its final episodes, there are so many questions to ponder. For example: without this NBC show, how would we ever have known Portland was overrun with Wesen? Would Captain Renard have been a good mayor? Why didn’t Nick (David Giuntoli) widen his dating pool to include women who weren’t Hexenbiests?
Oh, and then there’s the matter of the mysterious magic stick Supertotobet that Nick and the gang have been wondering about. And the even more mysterious cloth that the stick was wrapped in, which bears strange symbols only Eve/Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) and Diana (Hannah R. Loyd) have been able to see.
But there’s another lingering question that may make “Grimm” fans lose sleep. We don’t yet know how this sixth and last season will end. The cast and producers have hinted that something very dramatic will happen. Which is to be expected, considering the show is wrapping up its story.
So does this mean that one (or more) of the characters we’ve come to know and love for six seasons may not make it through to the end?
The thought of it is as upsetting as a convention of Hundjager. But maybe we’d better be prepared. Series finales can be pretty darn final.
Not that we want it to happen, but here’s a ranking of which “Grimm” characters are most likely — and least — likely to survive this final season.
Nick (David Giuntoli): He’s our hero. He’s the Grimm, for crying out loud. There’s no way anything permanent is going to happen to him.
Hank (Russell Hornsby): Hasn’t poor Hank suffered enough? His love life has been disastrous, and every case he and Nick work for the Portland Police force involves yucky, disgusting Wesen.
Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell): Come on. You know how “The Walking Dead” fans like to say, “If Daryl dies, we riot”? That’s how “Grimm” fans would react if Monroe should shuffle off this mortal coil…
Rosalee (Bree Turner): …especially since Monroe is going to be a father. Which makes it equally unlikely that anything terrible may happen to Rosalee, who has found hard-won happiness at last with Monroe, and is now expecting their — gulp — twins.
Adalind (Claire Coffee): Who thought Adalind would have lasted as long as she has? It’s possible there might be one last plot twist involving the evil Hexenbiest-turned-mother-of-Nick’s-child-turned-Nick’s-love-interest — whew! — but since the producers and writers went to all the trouble of coupling up Nick and Adalind, she may have a happy ending, after all.
Sgt. Wu (Reggie Lee): What could be sadder than seeing a tragic fate befall our beloved, wisecracking Sgt. Drew Wu? “Grimm” couldn’t do that to us. Right?
Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz): Yes, Renard is no longer actively trying to kill Nick. And yes, he’s a father now, too, of the powerful and unpredictable Diana. But he’s done so many evil things in the past two seasons, fate just might catch up with Renard before “Grimm” is over.
Juliette/Eve (Bitsie Tulloch): Not to be the bearer of bad news, but Juliette/Eve’s chances don’t look too good. For one thing, back when she was Juliette, things went south with Nick when she was overtaken by her Hexenbiest self, and played a role in helping the Royals kill Nick’s mother. Then, after Nick and everyone else thought she was dead, she reappeared as Eve, a Hadrian’s Wall warrior prone to robotic personal dynamics and silver wigs. This season, she’s becoming more like her old Juliette self, but she also seems to be a bridge between ancient evil — as represented by the Wesen “death grip” she endured — and Nick and his friends. I hope it doesn’t turn out this way, but Eve’s future doesn’t look too bright.
“Grimm” continues airing its final episodes at 8 p.m. Friday night on NBC.
