“Seems like yesterday…I love you, David.” With these emotional words, Victoria Beckham celebrated the 24th anniversary of her wedding to the former soccer player this past July 4. The designer shared several nostalgic images on Instagram from the beginning of her relationship, in 1997, with the then Manchester United player.
The Spice Girl displayed previously unpublished photographs from her early years as David’s girlfriend. In one of the snapshots, Victoria could be seen very happy, hugging her boy and with a big smile, something totally unusual for her. “You have made me smile for 24 years,” the businesswoman dedicated to her husband.
Victoria also recovered an image of one of the most iconic looks of the couple in the 90s. David and Victoria have spent more than two decades proving that they are one of the most stylish couples, from their unforgettable wedding dresses to the look they recently took to the Jacquemus parade in Versailles.
But in 1999, the couple starred in one of the shocking moments that went down in fashion history: their black leather suits. “What were we thinking?” Victoria asked amused on Instagram Stories while she showed her thousands of followers the photo of that day.
The Beckhams were the stars of a party that Versace organized in 1999. They appeared at the event with their coordinated looks and with leather as the star fabric. “It was about a dinner held by Versace and we were wearing Gucci outfits. Which is totally inappropriate,” explained the Spice Girl a few years ago in an interview where she admitted that she was very hot.
Despite the setback, Victoria assured that she kept a very special memory of that look. “It obsesses me, but I love it. We thought together what we were going to wear, there was a very sweet ingenuity about it,” she said.
The Beckams’ coordinated looks inspired other celebrity couples of the time, including Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Baptized in the early 2000s as “America’s boyfriends” they did not hesitate to dress to match, with total denim looks, for the American Music Awards gala. Some sets that also became part of the history of fashion.
