This past Monday the Spanish social chronicle announced the case of Álex García Galas, a Spanish citizen intubated in Thailand after suffering from acute pancreatitis. It was on February 25 when severe stomach pains forced him to be hospitalized while he was traveling in Thailand, beginning a difficult journey of medical complications, high financial expenses and attempts to transfer him back to Spain that have not been fruitful.
Usoa Martínez, his wife, gave the latest information on his condition yesterday, Wednesday, assuring that he was even getting worse. “In that serious condition I had to communicate with the doctors with Google translator,” she declared on Informativos Telecinco, while trying to ask for help through other programs and media. One of her latest requests came through an interview in El Diario Vasco.
“When he was admitted he was diagnosed with 40% of his pancreas with necrosis, but after almost two months in the hospital he is now worse. Doctors warn us of the risk of severe internal bleeding. In addition, respiratory complications have appeared. In the last drainage of the pancreatic fluid that they performed on him over the weekend, there were some complications and they had to intubate him,” the affected woman explained about the condition of her husband.
“After almost two months of this nightmare he is extremely exhausted. “I tell him to fight, to be strong, and I am convinced that he will move forward because he is strong and will endure for his children, but his eyes tell me that he is fading,” she insisted, although she could not give more details about his conversations with the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles. The organization announced in a note issued by Europa Press that it was studying the case.
“Minister Margarita Robles called me in person. Having the minister call you brings some light and hope in the midst of all this darkness that we are experiencing,” she explained in this regard. However, concerns about her condition remain a sensitive issue. Usoa herself admits that she does not want to talk more about what happened, but a doctor in Spain pointed out that the discomfort that Álex felt before the trip to Thailand was gas.
“It is a topic that I do not want to go into too much, much less debate, because I am not a doctor and I have no criteria to know if it was an accurate diagnosis or not. That said, it is true that two weeks before the trip he went to the emergency room, they told him that he had airs and he went home. From then until we took the plane on February 19, Álex was perfectly fine, without the slightest discomfort. I want to clarify this point. “My husband did not travel sick or with any symptoms,” he explained.
