The presenter María Teresa Campos died this morning at the age of 82, after being admitted last Sunday to the Jiménez Díaz Foundation Hospital in Madrid due to acute respiratory failure. A goodbye that has shocked society and the world of journalism in equal measure.
Despite the fact that in recent months the presenter has remained isolated due to the cognitive deterioration she was suffering, in her last hours of life she has been able to say goodbye to family and close friends. Her daughters, Terelu Campos and Carmen Borrego, kept the reality of the communicator’s state of health a secret until she had to be hospitalized.
The mortal remains of María Teresa Campos have already been transferred to the La Paz funeral home, located in the town of Tres Cantos, in Madrid. Her last goodbye will be surrounded by all those relatives and friends who want to say goodbye to one of the most recognized communicators in this country, starting at 12 noon.
The mass will be officiated by one of the closest and most trusted people in Campos, Father Ángel. And the same priest was one of the close friends who was able to say goodbye to the presenter hours before his death. “She is leaving, they love her and that is the most important thing. The saddest thing about dying is dying in loneliness and she does not die in loneliness,” he said at the hospital door.
Although the body of María Teresa Campos is in Madrid, it will not take long for it to be transferred to the city where she grew up and grew up: Malaga. Another mass will be celebrated there in memory of the communicator, and she will be buried.
“RIP María Teresa Campos, a pioneering and exceptional communicator who always boasted of Málaga. ‘A star that fell to God in an oversight’, she said in her proclamation for the Fair (2001). The next Málaga Street Commission will approve giving it its name to a space in the city”, Paco de la Torre, mayor of the city, assured a few hours ago.
Although Terelu Campos and Carmen Borrego have been two of the most important people in the life of María Teresa Campos, her grandchildren have been the presenter’s true love. For them she has felt devotion and she was in charge of ensuring it on several occasions. Alejandra Rubio (Terelu’s daughter), José María Almoguera and Carmen Rosa Almoguera (Carmen’s children) have not separated from their grandmother until the end.
However, there are many personalities who have wanted to speak out and transfer their particular farewell through social networks. Jorge Javier Vázquez, Àngels Barceló, Jesús Cintora, Pilar Eyre, Laura Fa, Mónica Naranjo, Pedro Sánchez or Irene Montero, are some of those who have not been slow to offer their condolences to the family.
