The absence of the PP candidate, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, from the RTVE electoral debate has been publicized since its inception. The candidates Yolanda Díaz, from Sumar, and Pedro Sánchez, from the PSOE, have begun their interventions attacking the PP’s decision not to attend. The two members of the Coalition Government have accused Feijóo of “hiding” and “hiding” by not going to RTVE to debate with them.

However, Santiago Abascal has been the only candidate who has not attacked the absence of the PP in the debate. Instead, he has alluded to this being “a gigantic opportunity” to be able to talk “about the important things” and for the Vox message to arrive “directly.”

Since it became known that the opposition leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo was not going to attend the electoral debate, voters have not hesitated to comment on the networks about the possibility that an empty lectern had been left as a symbolic act, as explained by Maldita.es, one of the factcheckers that are part of Comprobando, the alliance of verifying media for the 23J elections.

An act that is prohibited by the Supreme Court, according to a sentence published in the year 2000. This sentence specifies that this act could mean “a reproach trial”, in this case towards the Popular Party, and that, therefore, the debate would not be governed by “the principles of informational neutrality and political pluralism”.

For this reason, RTVE assured before the debate that there would not be a lectern addressed to Núñez Feijóo, although his absence has not gone unnoticed for this reason, since the candidates have not hesitated to name the candidate since the beginning of the electoral debate.
