The world of entertainment is in mourning, after the death of the ventriloquist and humorist María del Carmen Martínez at the age of 80, better known as “Mari Carmen and her dolls”, was confirmed.

As confirmed by Efe, the comedian has been found dead at her home in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife). Apparently, the causes of her death are due to “an accidental fall down the stairs” of her home, according to sources close to the artist in Semana magazine.

Mari Carmen has passed away in one of her most beloved places. “It has been like returning to paradise lost,” he explained in one of his last interviews for El Día. Puerto de la Cruz is a well-known city in Tenerife, characterized by its dark volcanic sand beaches and the immense Loro Parque zoo.

But the comedian was not only comfortable in the city, but she was delighted with the house in which she lived. The house is characterized by its outdoor area, where Mari Carmen managed to create her own little oasis, adding a saltwater pool with a jacuzzi. All surrounded by her beloved plants.

He also had work abroad, due to the time he had to dedicate to the garden. There, he had a banana tree and a cherry tree, as well as growing lettuce, parsley and tomatoes.

Mari Carmen (Cuenca, 1943) became famous for her television shows in which she spoke with her puppet dolls Doña Rogelia, Daisy, Nícol and Rodolfo.

After an international tour, in the 1970s she created her character Doña Rogelia. After her success in the musical Seven Thirty, in 1974 she recorded a pilot program for television. Two years later, RTVE offered him the special program La hora de Mari Carmen… y la muñecas de ella, which was recorded in color with a view to exporting it to Latin American countries.

In 1991, Humor cinco estrellas began to be broadcast on Telecinco. Every Saturday Mari Carmen and Doña Rogelia introduced the comedies and interviews. A year later, again on TVE, she presented the magazine ¡Ay, vida mía! for several months, in which her dolls were in charge of interviewing the guest character.

Mari Carmen also worked in different Spanish venues and theaters, as well as other radio formats.
