At 79 years of age, Lauren Hutton can boast of having a long and prosperous professional career behind her. Born in Charleston (United States) on November 17, 1943, she is one of the oldest and most respected models of recent times, although her appearance on the big screen also stands out in her career, in productions such as The Gambler (1974). or American Gigolo (1980). A talent like few others… that has led her to star in some advertising campaigns until she was almost 80 years old.

If something has characterized Hutton during his career, it is his decisive character. From the beginning, she was clear that nothing and no one should change her way of being, even in an industry as demanding as fashion. The American was particularly successful in the world of advertising and catwalks in the 1970s and 1980s. In fact, she became the first model to sign an exclusive contract with a cosmetics brand in 1973, at the hands of the renowned and mythical Revlon.

From its beginnings it was perceived that it was going to stand out as a different model from those that had existed until then. On one of his early covers, his separate palettes were modified. Some palettes that she was about to correct when his agency recommended that she spend her first salary at the dentist. However, she decided not to, and she became a vindictive icon of natural beauty. Something that she still defends today, at her 79th, claiming the attractiveness of old age.

“In my travels I have seen such beautiful and elegant 80-year-old women who do not go to the hairdresser or put on makeup,” he said in an interview for El País in December 2021. And, after so many years in the industry, the old age is a source of security for her. “You know how to act correctly, you learn to deal with adversity and to protect yourself so that you don’t get hurt. The blows stop worrying you,” she said.

In recent years, the volume of work has decreased (although she does continue to model), but one of the last notable campaigns in which she participated was in 2017, when she turned 73 years old. It was from the hand of Calvin Klein. The brand had previously shown different references in the current scene for its line of underwear, such as Kendall Jenner or Justin Bieber. After this campaign, the firm revolutionized the networks after betting on Hutton, a decision that was highly applauded for promoting the acceptance of different physiques and older ages.

But as we said, his professional career was not only marked by fashion. Hutton made her film debut in Paper Lion (1968). One of the films that made her stand out in Hollywood was The Gambler (1974), for which she earned good reviews as James Caan’s antagonist. Another standout performance of her was American Gigolo (1980), the Paul Schrader classic that discovered Richard Gere, one of the greatest actors of all time.

Lauren’s roles in major movies were relatively few. Her acting career began to stagnate during the 1980s, when she starred in minor European films or in American films with little box office success, such as Lassiter (1985) or Once Bitten (1985). In 1995 she was part of the cast of Central Park West, on CBS, where she played the wealthy socialite Linda Fairchild. She also debuted on her own late-night show, Lauren Hutton and…, which was soon cancelled.

Throughout her life she has continued to dedicate herself to modeling. She also created her own cosmetic brand, Lauren Hutton’s Good Stuff, which is sold primarily through her website in the United States. At 79, she continues to participate in campaigns, and has starred in some covers, such as Harper’s Bazaar in May 2022. Undoubtedly, a great example that beauty does not understand age. Lauren is pure elegance and determination.
