Dua Lipa confirmed weeks of rumors about her relationship status last weekend after appearing with French film director Romain Gavras on the red carpet at the Cannes festival. An image of pure love, with the couple laughing, hugging and melting into gestures of affection before the assembled press; that she announced to the world that yes, the pop star has a busy heart.
A new relationship that is confirmed almost two years after her breakup with Anwar Hadid, her last known partner, who would not have taken it too well that the singer has remade her life. So much so that the musician used his Instagram account, posting some messages that were alarming enough to worry those close to him.
Flashes were on the couple in Cannes, and meanwhile, Hadid wrote on Instagram things like “trying not to find him and kill him.” A message that, despite the fact that the 23-year-old model never specified who she was referring to, everything seems to indicate that she would be talking about Gavras.
In another image, the young man writes “I can’t breathe” while taking a selfie in the mirror; or another where he says “I hate the way you say my name”, showing his feet on the ground.
If the model and musician was referring to his ex-partner, only he knows. However, the messages came just after it was confirmed that the French director and the singer would have known each other “for months”, which would have set off alarm bells for Hadid.
Hadid, who is dedicated to the world of fashion and is the younger brother of supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid, had a relationship of more than two years with the British singer of Albanian origin. A passionate relationship, which however ended hopelessly in mid-2021 after having lived together during the pandemic: he in New York, dedicated to his fashion projects; her in London, with her music. The distance and their busy schedules made it impossible for them to continue their relationship, and in October 2022, Dua Lipa herself declared herself single.
The couple met thanks to the model’s sisters, Bella and Gigi -who, by the way, is also in Cannes these days- Hadid, who introduced them during the celebration of the young man’s birthday party. The crush was instantaneous, and shortly after they could be seen kissing together at a music festival, where they made it clear that theirs was going forward and was serious.
Their appearance at different music events, “making official” their relationship at the 2019 American Music Awards; and fashion cemented a relationship that both claimed went beyond love and was founded on a deep friendship, which, however, seems not to have been enough, because it broke up two years later.
In December 2021, the couple decided to take a break from their relationship, given their busy schedules. However, for Hadid this was not a definitive break. For this reason, according to some sources, she would have been surprised when she Dua Lipa confessed in an interview in May 2022 that she was living “the next chapter” of her life, that she was really about “living well being alone”.
