The true story of the goodbye of Jesús Álvarez from RTVE: "They forced me to retire"

Jesús Álvarez, one of TVE’s most veteran journalists, surprised all viewers by announcing his departure from the channel on February 22. A goodbye for which the public channel paid tribute to the communicator with a video of his career and allowing him to be on set during TD1.

In that newscast that he knows so well, Álvarez said goodbye to his teammates with a video in which he reviewed his entire career as a sports journalist: from his reports on the field and inside the locker rooms of multiple soccer teams to his long years on set presenting this section of the Newscast.

However, a few days later it is now Jesús Álvarez himself who clarifies that his departure was not voluntary. On the contrary. Apparently, it was all set up within RTVE. “TVE retires me, I don’t retire,” this journalist said in an interview with Pronto.

“A journalist is until death. I want to continue doing things, something that they have not let me do on TVE where they have not even wanted to listen to my projects ”, the journalist pointed out in an interview in which he was very hard on what was his home until a few days ago .

“In this company, the house is above the people,” said the latter, who has acknowledged that he was “perplexed when they forced me to retire.” “I feel disappointed, they have not taken into account everything I have given to this house,” insisted Álvarez, who alleges that RTVE does not feel “sorry” for his goodbye.

“I sent a message to Elena Sánchez, president of RTVE, who is a lifelong friend of mine and I am still waiting for the answer,” he stated, very annoyed. However, despite his words, she claims “not” to feel a grudge. “I’m leaving very happy for everything I’ve done in these 47 years of profession.”
