The spokesperson for Daniel Sancho's family: “There have been many lies and they have come out in the trial”

After several weeks, the trial of Daniel Sancho in Thailand has come to an end, after last August 2023 he confessed to the murder and dismemberment of the Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta. Little by little, more details about this process are becoming known, and recently it was Ramón Chippirrás, a member of Daniel Sancho’s defense team, who revealed new information to the media 20 Minutes.

The son of Rodolfo Sancho and Silvia Bronchalo is now awaiting a verdict after being tried for the alleged crime committed in August 2023, and his sentence will be known on August 29, more than a year after the events. Now, the spokesperson did not want to give details about his client’s final argument, in which Daniel once again claimed his innocence and accused the Police of manipulation. Now, he wanted to clarify some information to the aforementioned media.

For his part, Chippirrás denies that the last witness called to testify by the defense, a chef expert in knives, refused to attend, and assures that “we renounced it.” The man explains that the language barrier, the press ban and rumors have been the main problem. “We are happy to have reached the end and nervous about the verdict,” he explains to 20 Minutes.

Ramón has experienced the judicial process from Thailand, where he has had the opportunity to see up close how justice works in the Asian country. “He has been very different from what we are used to in Spain. You see a lot of common law here, but, apart from that, they have their own Thai customs and, in that sense, experiencing it has been amazing,” he said.

The Spaniard assures that the translation aspect has failed a lot, and that it has been “very difficult.” “In Daniel’s final argument, the court’s official translator did not know how to interpret very technical words and a second translator had to come and correct the first one. Even this second translator had to be corrected with a third Thai person,” he revealed during the interview.

As for the actor Rodolfo Sancho, the spokesperson assures that he is very tired psychologically, since he has faced a very difficult process as a father. “Evidently, he has done what any other father would do, which is to be by his son’s side, to fight for his innocence because he believes in her,” he began by saying. “On the other hand, he is also happy to have reached the end of the trial and is nervous about the sentence,” he said.

Likewise, Ramón was also asked what is the biggest lie that has been told about the case, something to which he firmly replied that “in this case we have gone against the tide.” “He told us that the victim’s death was the result of an accident due to self-defense. From there we have fought for nine months, practically against everyone and for Daniel to have the fairest trial he could have in Thailand. Also for eliminating the death penalty and life imprisonment,” he answered, ensuring that the situation in general has been very complicated.

After being questioned by the Koh Phangan Police, he assures that “there have been many lies and they have come out in the trial.” “It has been confirmed that many of the actions were not well done. Those police officers have been heard, the documentary has been seen and this evidence has been demonstrated and accredited,” he stated in the interview cited.
