The reasons why Suri, daughter of Tom Cruise, has decided to drop her father's last name

Suri Cruise, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has just turned of age. Like all young people her age, she has already begun to make important decisions that will mark her personal life. Among others, a notable change that those attending the musical Head Over Heels noticed, where she shows her talent as an actress and singer; And she has changed her name.

Suri plays the role of Philoclea in the play, which premiered a few days ago and was attended by her mother, Katie Holmes, and her maternal grandparents, Martin and Kathleen. The young Suri was not credited with her famous paternal surname, but rather she has chosen a new name by which she would prefer to be known.

According to Hello Magazine, the daughter of the former acting couple is credited by Playbill not with her birth name, but as “Suri Noelle”, thus adopting her mother’s middle name, Katie Noelle Cruise.

A tender nod to her mother, with whom she has lived and raised since she divorced her father, Tom Cruise, in 2012. They have both lived in New York, and since then, she has barely had contact with her father. More than ten years have passed, and the situation remains the same.

The lack of contact between father and daughter has not prevented, however, the teenager from showing a growing interest in the performing arts, where it seems that she is taking some first and successful steps. A few months ago, the news broke that the young woman had landed the leading role in another play at her exclusive school, where she had played Morticia Addams in The Addams Family: A New Musical.

As the lucky ones who had the opportunity to see her on stage stated, “she did not disappoint.” After her performance, she thanked her teachers and the rest of her co-stars, without mentioning her famous parents. She also provided her voice for Holmes’ directorial debut, Rare Objects (2023).

Katie Holmes has always strived so that her daughter could have a normal childhood away from the media spotlight, unlike what happened with her relationship with Cruise. Since then, the teenager has tried to go unnoticed and away from the paparazzi, dedicating herself to her life and what she likes.

Tom Cruise, for his part, does not seem to have any intention of reuniting with his daughter. In 2012, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes ended their marriage for one reason: the actor’s religion, which is Scientology. Their relationship came to an end, and the actress took steps so that the actor could do nothing to obtain custody. The ones she does have a relationship with are his two oldest children, Isabella and Connor Cruise, whom he adopted during his marriage to Nicole Kidman; both followers of Scientology.
