The reason why Daniel Sancho has not testified today in the Edwin Arrieta crime trial

Daniel Sancho has been preparing for months to face the trial that will decide his guilt, or not, in the crime of Edwin Arrieta. Rodolfo Sancho’s son is accused of having murdered and dismembered the Colombian surgeon in Thailand. A fact for which he has been in Koh Samui prison since last August.

Now, the defense of the accused is doing everything possible so that the label of ‘with premeditation’ is not added to the sentence. Something that the Arrieta family’s lawyer is looking for, and that could mean life imprisonment or the death penalty in the Asian country. Therefore, one of the most important assets for the chef is his own statement, which has had to be postponed.

Although these words from Daniel Sancho before the judge should have been given today, a problem in the Koh Samui court itself has altered all plans. An electrical outage in the building for maintenance reasons has caused the air conditioning to not be turned on, completely scorching the atmosphere.

Some problems that have begun to be noticed in the final part of the Prosecutor’s testimony and that have caused the session to be definitively suspended until tomorrow. Such is the temperature on the Thai island, which is described as “excessive heat” by the meteorological report.

It will be like this this Thursday when Rodolfo Sancho’s son offers his statement. Something that could end up tipping the balance in his favor, or quite the opposite. For this reason, his Thai lawyer has expressed his satisfaction at this postponement at the courthouse door.

And this way, you will not only have more time to prepare, but also to explain yourself. “Daniel is ready for it whether today or tomorrow. In my opinion, I prefer him to do it tomorrow, because if he does it today he will have three or four hours in the afternoon, and if he does it tomorrow he will have all day,” said the lawyer, Aprichat Srinuel.

The Arrieta family’s own lawyer has stated that this statement that will be given tomorrow is very important for the case. “His statement is very important from a legal perspective so that the judge can determine and try to know if we are dealing with a plan that was established or not,” he said. Likewise, he has once again reiterated that they have not received repentance from the accused. “We have found a defendant who continues to deny the majority,” he added.

Even so, Daniel Sancho’s lawyer has said completely the opposite. “Yes, he regretted this accidental incident,” the lawyer said as he left the Court. Now, we have to wait until Thursday to see how this trial continues.
