The crime of the Urban Police continues at the crest of the media wave. The murder that took place six years ago has become a trending topic after the premiere of the series The Body on Fire on Netflix, which was followed by the documentary The Tapes of Rosa Peral.
The protagonist of the crime, Rosa Peral, was convicted along with her lover Albert López for murdering her partner, a colleague named Pedro Rodríguez, in May 2017. The prosecutor in charge of the case, Félix Martín, has opened up after the premiere of the projects on Netflix, making his opinion clear on Cadena SER.
Martín, collaborator of the program If it dawns that we leave, has criticized the production of the project for its inconsistencies and for having helped Rosa Peral’s entourage to take advantage of the media push to resume her defense.
“My severe disagreement with the documentary is deontological and another methodological. First because I was told that it was going to be done in a different way than what was finally done. And second, they only focus on the subjective opinion of someone convicted of murder. In this context, not explaining that there was also another person convicted makes it seem that Rosa was the only one judged severely,” says the prosecutor.
Francisco Peral, father of the alleged murderer, has focused this week on publicly defending his daughter, stating that she suffers a “triple punishment.” Francisco defends his innocence and denounces the situation that his daughter is experiencing when she is exposed both in fiction and in the media.
Finally, Félix Martín admits to being satisfied with the “reaction” of society. “I think that we citizens have to have the critical capacity to not assert a documentary for a single vision. We cannot give prominence to a person convicted by a final sentence. There must be an extra responsibility,” the prosecutor concluded.
