“48 hours illegally arrested, without a lawyer and without being read his rights.” This is the idea that the lawyers of Rodolfo Sancho’s son wanted to convey, who have summoned the media to provide new evidence and denounce irregularities in the process initiated by the Thai Police in the investigation into the alleged murder by the Spaniard. to Edwin Arrieta last August.
Carmen Balfagón and Marcos GarcÃa Montes have denounced numerous irregularities in the process. Among others, having violated the rights of Daniel Sancho and forcing him to record the reconstruction of the events. However, one of the things that has attracted the most attention has been the existence of some photographs that show Sancho’s own wounds, with which they intend to demonstrate that Arrieta attacked the Spaniard.
An attack and not a fight prior to the Colombian’s death, as was reportedly said. This would be demonstrated by Daniel Sancho’s defensive wounds. Some images that would have been taken by the police and filtered by the security forces themselves, in which you can see bites and scratches on both arms of Daniel Sancho.
“They are bites, because all the teeth are there,” explains GarcÃa Montes, showing images of both arms. “Finally, these injuries, with bruises whose color indicates that they are from the day after the arrest.”
Balfagón confirmed that this information was already known to the Prosecutor’s Office. “This would mean the proceedings were null and void. It cannot be that you declare something and the transcript reads something else. That has done terrible damage to Daniel’s image. From minute one we have said it: everyone had very clear that as he had confessed… Of course, what happens when you see that the confession is not that. It is a “prepared” confession.”
“We seek the annulment of the police investigation. We have been silent until we have heard from the Prosecutor. All this previous investigation should be burned, eliminated. Spain has to know what has happened to the Police,” GarcÃa Montes insists. “We understand that this explanation had to be given,” adds Balfagón.
From now on, the countdown begins for Daniel Sancho’s trial, which will not be before April 9. “Now we have a fabulous lawyer, a public defender, who is doing his job. Integrated into the team, collaborating. Daniel’s defense is handled by the public defender. We believe he is a good colleague and we have empathy with him,” insists Carmen. “We will be with them,” says GarcÃa Montes.
