The lawyer of one of Noelia de Mingo's victims speaks after her new conviction: "It satisfies all parties"

Noelia de Mingo will avoid prison after stabbing two employees of a supermarket in El Molar, in Madrid, two years ago. The doctor, previously convicted after killing three people at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation in 2003, has accepted, in exchange for not going to prison, confinement in a psychiatric hospital for 33 years.

The reason is the paranoid schizophrenia and hallucinations that De Mingo suffers from, so this new sentence is very different from the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, which requested for her nine years and nine months in prison for two crimes of attempted homicide and another of attack, in addition to demanding that the incomplete defense of psychological anomaly be applied.

Carlos Sardinero, lawyer for one of Noelia de Mingo’s victims in the incident that occurred in 2021, has assessed the sentence that the woman has just received in the Telecinco TardeAR program. “We are satisfied, I would say even happy after everything that has happened,” he said in Ana Rosa Quintana’s space.

“After two years of investigation, and at the last moment we have managed to close this agreement,” he explained, adding that, in his opinion, “it is an agreement that satisfies all people, all parties, but fundamentally the victims, and also closes the fact that similar events could occur on Noelia’s part”, since the possibilities of reducing the time she will spend hospitalized are very small.

Asked about the illness that De Mingo suffers from, the lawyer told some details. “She has a pathology that is being treated, it seems that she did not want to treat it at first, but she is sick, I think with a good prognosis from what I know,” he assured, refusing to give more information on the matter.

Sardinero has questioned the decision to release the health worker in 2017, since “it was a dangerous situation due to her paranoid schizophrenia” and she already has “three murders behind her, and four very serious injuries.” “There was no guarantee, they told us that the most likely thing was that the events would not be repeated, and we, as the accusation, said that we did not want to talk about probability,” he said in TardeAR.
